After breaking even in Nigeria, Opay eyes expansion in North Africa in 2021

OPay, a prominent player in the fintech industry, has been honoured with the ‘Mobile Payment Solutions Provider of the Year’ award at the 12th Annual Banks and Other Financial Institutions Awards (BAFI).

The recognition underscores OPay’s ongoing dedication to innovation, customer satisfaction, and leadership in secure digital transactions within Nigeria’s dynamic fintech sector.

The company expressed that this accolade affirms its continuous efforts to elevate security and user experience across its range of financial products and services. Emphasising its commitment to safeguarding users’ financial assets, OPay has introduced several advanced security measures to address key challenges in digital payments.

One of the company’s notable security innovations is the Large Transaction Shield, designed to offer an extra layer of protection for high-value transactions. By implementing an additional verification step, this feature aims to reduce the likelihood of errors and unauthorised transfers, thus providing users with greater peace of mind.

In addition, OPay’s NightGuard feature enables users to set time-based account restrictions, offering additional security against potential fraudulent activities during overnight hours.

In its quest for inclusivity, OPay has also integrated USSD codes into its services, enabling users to securely carry out transactions without the need for an internet connection. This capability not only enhances accessibility but also aligns with the company’s goal to bring financial services to regions with limited internet coverage.

As a licensed and insured institution regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and covered by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), OPay continues to uphold stringent security and compliance standards while broadening access to a variety of financial services.

Commenting on the award, Dotun Adekunle, OPay’s chief operating officer, expressed pride in receiving the recognition. He noted, “Being named the ‘Mobile Payment Solutions Provider of the Year’ is a testament to our unwavering commitment to security, innovation, and delivering a seamless and secure digital payment experience. At OPay, we believe that secure and accessible financial solutions are crucial to advancing financial inclusion and empowering both individuals and businesses.”
