Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Ondo State governor, has taken the decision to dissolve the State Executive Council (SEC) with immediate effect.

A statement issued by Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor’s chief press secretary, directed all members of the cabinet to hand over their duties to the permanent secretaries or the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices.

The statement from the governor’s office also stated that all senior special assistants (SSAs) and special assistants (SAs) have been relieved of their duties, effective immediately.

“All members of the cabinet are to immediately hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices.

All the affected officials are directed to hand over all government properties in their possession. The governor thanks the affected officials for their services and contributions to the development of the state,” the statement read.

Business a.m gathered that the commissioners and other appointees who were relieved of their duties were all appointed by the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Akeredolu, who served as governor of Ondo State from 2016 to 2023, died in December 2023.

Following the death of Akeredolu, Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as the new Governor of Ondo State on December 27, 2023. Aiyedatiwa had served as the deputy governor under Akeredolu and was the natural successor after Akeredolu’s death.
