Bode Agusto, one of Nigeria’s leading consultants on economics, finance and business strategy, and the founder of Agusto & Co, one of Africa’s top credit rating agencies, has reportedly died.

Business a.m. sources said he died in Portugal from an illness for which he was receiving treatment, but that he succumbed last night.

A globally respected economist and finance expert, Agusto was engaged in many public interventions on the economy and business landscapes of Nigeria and Africa.

He contributed immensely to shaping thought leadership on the Nigerian economy, often shaping discourse around inflation, exchange rate and currency management.

Agusto was very much involved in fiscal and monetary policy debates and offered public advices that helped government policy makers in many of their decisions.

Agusto presented annual and occasional economic outlooks on Nigeria and the world which drew large audiences across the country.

Sources within the agency he founded told Business a.m. of the sadness that has overwhelmed the atmosphere. They spoke about an irreplaceable loss of a leader who guided the company to enviable heights.
