Unilag alumni advocate women inclusion in insurance

The Class 1989 Alumni Association of the University of Lagos Actuarial Science and Insurance has called for more involvement of women in insurance and financial sectors to deepen their penetration in both segments.

This call was made in an event titled “Insurance and Financial Inclusion: Developing Insurance Products for the Informal Sector”, organised in honour of Sunday Adekunle Aduloju, a member of the alumni association, who was recently promoted to the position of Professor of Insurance and Risk Management at the university.

Unilag alumni advocate women inclusion in insuranceHenry Ationu, president of  the association, said that increasing women participation in the provision and use of financial services is a sure way to deepen insurance penetration and financial inclusion in Nigeria.

According to him, the association is tasked with an objective to assist in promoting and developing the practice of insurance and risk management in Nigeria.

Ationu, who is also the founder and promoter of Heat Finance and Investments Ltd, also shared his sentiment during a press conference for the association’s symposium and award ceremony where he listed regulation, technology and financial literacy as other factors that would promote financial inclusion.

The symposium drew attendance from across the academia and  insurance and financial services industry including Yetunde Ilori, Director-General of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), and Edwin Igbiti, President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).

Other personnels in attendance include, Tunde Oguntade, deputy president, Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB);  Sammy Ogbodu, managing director/chief executive officer of Sunu Insurance; the academia such as Emmanuel Oyatoye, dean, Faculty of Management Sciences; Hamadu Dallah, head of department, Actuarial Science & Insurance; and Folake Olowokudejo, the coordinator of UNILAG Business School, among others.
