Boeing is slipping behind as Airbus pushes ahead

Airbus is leading the narrowbody sector, but Boeing is gaining ground. It is the widebody sector that should give Boeing the most concern.

The 787 is still not being delivered, and Boeing is in the hands of the FAA as to when that will resume. The 777X has ceased production for at least a year as issues with its certification linger on.

Airbus’s A350 is a great success, with 16 delivered this year and a backlog of 440. The recent success with Qantas and the A350-1000 is an added fillip and a jolt to Boeing, given the B777 started the Project Sunrise race as the favourite.

Boeing needs to clear its decks and start having some positive news to tell the industry and the travelling public. But how far away is that?
