Kwara, Sokoto, Ogun and Edo, four Nigerian subregional states are benefitting from a N10 billion healthcare intervention grant through the expansion of the 2021 programme of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), founded by billionaire industrialist and founder and executive chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu.

Ubon Udoh, managing director, ASR Africa, said since the inception of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative and its $100 million Africa Fund for Social Development, it has identified key development needs in healthcare, education and social development within Nigeria and the African continent at large.

He added that based on the organisation’s sub-national healthcare needs assessment and successful implementation of the project since commencement, ASR Africa has  decided to commit N2.5 billion each to the four aforementioned states within Nigeria.

Udoh further explained that the expanded grant will be dedicated towards healthcare interventions from maternal and child health to health infrastructure, capacity development amongst others.

The ASR managing director also said the project will develop mutual accountability frameworks with the state implementation teams after which fifty per cent of the grant will be disbursed immediately to commence implementation of the projects. The remaining fifty percent, he said, will be released in line with agreed delivery milestones.

Established in 2021, the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa initiative aims to support sustainable development initiatives annually in the health, education and social development sectors within Nigeria and the rest of Africa.
